A prolifera\u00e7\u00e3o da cultura do caf\u00e9 por todo o pa\u00eds pode ser atribu\u00edda aos solos vulc\u00e2nicos origin\u00e1rios dos 37 vulc\u00f5es do pa\u00eds e ao clima equatorial. A produ\u00e7\u00e3o de caf\u00e9 na Guatemala ocorre a 1.600 a 4.900 p\u00e9s acima do n\u00edvel do mar e abrange mais de 270.000 hectares. Nesta \u00e9poca, a principal ind\u00fastria da Guatemala era a produ\u00e7\u00e3o de corantes naturais de \u00edndigo e cochonilha, at\u00e9 que a inven\u00e7\u00e3o dos corantes sint\u00e9ticos em meados do s\u00e9culo XIX dizimou a ind\u00fastria. Procurando uma nova forma de ganhar dinheiro, muitos guatemaltecos viraram-se para a cultura do caf\u00e9 e, em 1880, 90% das exporta\u00e7\u00f5es do pa\u00eds eram caf\u00e9. Este aumento para 90% das exporta\u00e7\u00f5es \u00e9 impressionante quando consideramos o facto de a produ\u00e7\u00e3o de caf\u00e9 ter come\u00e7ado apenas 30 anos antes, na d\u00e9cada de 1850. O dom\u00ednio da produ\u00e7\u00e3o de caf\u00e9 na Guatemala era \u00f3bvio no mercado global do caf\u00e9, uma vez que o pa\u00eds foi o maior produtor de caf\u00e9 na Am\u00e9rica Central durante a maior parte <sup>do s\u00e9culo XX <\/sup>e in\u00edcio <sup>do s\u00e9culo XXI<\/sup>, at\u00e9 que as Honduras finalmente o ultrapassaram.    <\/p>\n\n<p>Outra coisa que diferencia a produ\u00e7\u00e3o de caf\u00e9 guatemalteca \u00e9 a Asociaci\u00f3n Nacional del Caf\u00e9 (Anacaf\u00e9), uma organiza\u00e7\u00e3o fundada em 1960 para representar e promover todos os produtores de caf\u00e9 guatemaltecos. A Anacaf\u00e9 estabeleceu a marca de caf\u00e9 guatemalteca e categorizou as oito principais regi\u00f5es produtoras de caf\u00e9 do pa\u00eds: Vale do Acatenango, Caf\u00e9 de Ant\u00edgua, Atitl\u00e1n Tradicional, Floresta Tropical de Cob\u00e1n, Planalto de Fraijanes, Planalto de Huehue, Novo Oriente e Vulc\u00e2nico San Marcos. Como primeiro pa\u00eds a caracterizar as suas regi\u00f5es produtoras, a Guatemala, atrav\u00e9s dos esfor\u00e7os da Anacaf\u00e9, conseguiu distinguir entre si os v\u00e1rios caf\u00e9s das regi\u00f5es produtoras guatemaltecas, bem como os caf\u00e9s produzidos em pa\u00edses de todo o mundo.  <\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"686\" src=\"https:\/\/www.westrockcoffee.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/guatemala-coffee-harvest-1024x686.jpg\" alt=\"Unidade de Colheita de Caf&#xE9; da Guatemala\" class=\"wp-image-2381\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.westrockcoffee.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/guatemala-coffee-harvest-1024x686.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.westrockcoffee.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/guatemala-coffee-harvest-300x201.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.westrockcoffee.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/guatemala-coffee-harvest-768x514.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.westrockcoffee.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/guatemala-coffee-harvest.jpg 1195w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<p>Hoje, o caf\u00e9 \u00e9 ainda uma das exporta\u00e7\u00f5es agr\u00edcolas mais importantes da Guatemala, representando 40% das receitas de exporta\u00e7\u00e3o do pa\u00eds e empregando mais de 125.000 fam\u00edlias, 97% das quais s\u00e3o pequenos agricultores. Mesmo sendo um pa\u00eds relativamente pequeno geograficamente, a Guatemala \u00e9 ainda o 9<sup>\u00ba<\/sup> maior exportador de caf\u00e9 do mundo. <\/p>\n\n<p>Tal como muitos outros pa\u00edses produtores de caf\u00e9, a Guatemala exporta historicamente grande parte do caf\u00e9 que produz. No entanto, o consumo de caf\u00e9 est\u00e1 a crescer no pa\u00eds, embora 58% do consumo dom\u00e9stico seja de caf\u00e9 sol\u00favel, uma alternativa mais barata ao caf\u00e9 integral ou mo\u00eddo.<\/p>\n\n<p>O caf\u00e9 proveniente da Guatemala \u00e9 quase exclusivamente ar\u00e1bica e \u00e9 normalmente lavado, embora outros m\u00e9todos de processamento estejam a ganhar popularidade.
