Westrock Coffee has operated at origin in Rwanda since 2009, working directly with Rwandan farmers to buy, mill, process, and sell these coveted coffees throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia.

Rwanda consists mainly of mountainous regions and plateau to the east of the Great Rift Valley. The climate is warm with a summer dry season. Ninety percent of the Rwandan population depends upon subsistence farming. Coffee and tea are the primary exports, while light industry and foreign aid provide other income streams.

The long history of ethnic conflicts and the 1994 civil war have devastated the country economically. Today, the economy is in a state of recuperation. The slow rebuilding process means there is still room for considerable growth and improvement.

Our recent investments in washing stations has paid off, resulting in excellent fully washed Arabica beans commanding considerable premiums for farmers.
