Costa Rica

WESTROCK WORKS DIRECTLY WITH PARTNERS IN COSTA RICA TO ENSURE TRACEABLE, TRANSPARENT AND QUALITY COFFEE IS AVAILABLE FOR OUR COFFEE BLENDS.

Costa Rica is a beautiful country set in the heart of Central America and is home to nearly 5 million people. Costa Rica is a coastal plain surrounded by two continental masses and two oceans and separated by rugged mountains, with varied climates in both the highland and lowland areas. From the volcanoes and rainforest to the beaches and mountains, Costa Rica has become one of the top tourist stops for travelers.

Costa Rica has a relatively stable government and a higher standard of living than neighboring countries. In turn, it is more expensive to travel and do business there.

Costa Rica has a history rooted in coffee production with coffee first cultivated in the early 1800s. Today, Costa Rica has eight prominent coffee producing areas and the country is heavily regulated by the national body Icafe. Under the watch of Icafe, farmers are monitored and protected with minimum living standards and wages for all employees.

Production in Costa Rica has been in flux over the past few years, but production of specialty coffee is on the rise and quality is characteristically high across the country.
