La proliferaci\u00f3n del cultivo de caf\u00e9 en todo el pa\u00eds puede atribuirse a los suelos volc\u00e1nicos procedentes de los 37 volcanes del pa\u00eds y al clima ecuatorial. La producci\u00f3n de caf\u00e9 en Guatemala tiene lugar entre los 1.600 y los 4.900 pies sobre el nivel del mar y abarca m\u00e1s de 270.000 hect\u00e1reas. En aquella \u00e9poca, la principal industria de Guatemala era la producci\u00f3n de tintes naturales de a\u00f1il y cochinilla, hasta que la invenci\u00f3n de los tintes sint\u00e9ticos a mediados del siglo XIX diezm\u00f3 la industria. Buscando una nueva forma de ganar dinero, muchos guatemaltecos se dedicaron al cultivo del caf\u00e9 y, en 1880, el 90% de las exportaciones del pa\u00eds eran de caf\u00e9. Este ascenso hasta el 90% de las exportaciones es asombroso si se tiene en cuenta que la producci\u00f3n de caf\u00e9 comenz\u00f3 s\u00f3lo 30 a\u00f1os antes, en la d\u00e9cada de 1850. El dominio de la producci\u00f3n de caf\u00e9 en Guatemala era obvio en el mercado mundial del caf\u00e9, ya que el pa\u00eds fue el principal productor de caf\u00e9 de Am\u00e9rica Central durante la mayor parte del siglo<sup>XX<\/sup> y principios del<sup>XXI<\/sup>, hasta que Honduras acab\u00f3 super\u00e1ndoles.    <\/p>\n\n<p>Otra cosa que distingue a la producci\u00f3n cafetera guatemalteca es la Asociaci\u00f3n Nacional del Caf\u00e9 (Anacaf\u00e9), organizaci\u00f3n fundada en 1960 para representar y promover a todos los caficultores guatemaltecos. Anacaf\u00e9 estableci\u00f3 la marca del caf\u00e9 guatemalteco y categoriz\u00f3 las ocho principales regiones productoras de caf\u00e9 del pa\u00eds: Valle de Acatenango, Caf\u00e9 de Antigua, Atitl\u00e1n Tradicional, Cob\u00e1n Selv\u00e1tico, Meseta de Fraijanes, Huehue Altiplano, Nuevo Oriente y San Marcos Volc\u00e1nico. Como primer pa\u00eds que caracteriz\u00f3 sus regiones productoras, Guatemala, gracias a los esfuerzos de Anacaf\u00e9, pudo distinguir los diversos caf\u00e9s de las regiones productoras guatemaltecas entre s\u00ed, as\u00ed como del caf\u00e9 producido en pa\u00edses de todo el mundo.  <\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"686\" src=\"https:\/\/www.westrockcoffee.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/guatemala-coffee-harvest-1024x686.jpg\" alt=\"Instalaci&#xF3;n de recolecci&#xF3;n de caf&#xE9; en Guatemala\" class=\"wp-image-2381\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.westrockcoffee.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/guatemala-coffee-harvest-1024x686.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.westrockcoffee.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/guatemala-coffee-harvest-300x201.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.westrockcoffee.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/guatemala-coffee-harvest-768x514.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.westrockcoffee.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/guatemala-coffee-harvest.jpg 1195w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<p>Hoy en d\u00eda, el caf\u00e9 sigue siendo una de las exportaciones agr\u00edcolas m\u00e1s destacadas de Guatemala, ya que representa el 40% de los ingresos por exportaci\u00f3n del pa\u00eds y da empleo a m\u00e1s de 125.000 familias, el 97% de las cuales son peque\u00f1os agricultores. Incluso siendo un pa\u00eds relativamente peque\u00f1o geogr\u00e1ficamente, Guatemala sigue siendo el<sup>9\u00ba<\/sup> mayor exportador de caf\u00e9 del mundo. <\/p>\n\n<p>Como muchos otros pa\u00edses productores de caf\u00e9, Guatemala ha exportado hist\u00f3ricamente gran parte del caf\u00e9 que produce; sin embargo, el consumo de caf\u00e9 est\u00e1 creciendo en Guatemala, aunque el 58% del consumo interno es caf\u00e9 soluble, una alternativa m\u00e1s barata al caf\u00e9 entero o molido.<\/p>\n\n<p>El caf\u00e9 procedente de Guatemala es casi exclusivamente ar\u00e1bica y suele lavarse, aunque cada vez son m\u00e1s populares otros m\u00e9todos de procesado.
